- Description
A beautiful and auspicious occasion! Sathyanarayana Kalyanam (also called Sathyanarayana Swamy Kalyanam) is the divine wedding ceremony of Lord Sathyanarayana — a form of Lord Vishnu — typically celebrated as part of the Sathyanarayana Puja or as a standalone devotional event.
What it is?
The Kalyanam depicts the celestial marriage of Lord Sathyanarayana (Vishnu) with Goddess Lakshmi (or sometimes Andal/Tulasi, depending on the tradition). It is performed as a mangala (auspicious) ritual invoking blessings for prosperity, well-being, and fulfillment of wishes.
When it's performed?
- As part of Sathyanarayana Puja (Pournami/full moon days)
- During family milestones — housewarming, weddings, new beginnings
- During temple festival seasons (especially Vaikunta Ekadasi, Karthigai)
- As a standalone vow fulfillment (Harke or Harike)
Key elements
- Sankalpa — declaration of intent and devotee's name/gothram
- Abhishekam — sacred bath of the deity
- Alamkaram — decoration with flowers and garments
- Thirukalyanam — the wedding ritual with Mangalya dharanam
- Prasadam — typically Panchamrutham and cooked offerings
