Sampoorna Narayaneeyam Parayanam
( 8.00 AM, Sat, Oct 24, 2026 )

- Description
Narayaneeyam is a Sanskrit devotional text composed in the late 16th century by Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri, a scholar-poet from Kerala. Tradition holds he wrote it while suffering from severe rheumatic pain, as an offering to Guruvayurappan (Lord Krishna) at the Guruvayur Temple — and that composing it also restored his health, which is part of why the text is considered especially potent when recited devotionally.
Structure: It condenses the entire Bhagavata Purana into 1,034 Sanskrit verses, organized into 100 dashakas (chapters), tracing Krishna's various avatars and leelas (divine play) — from cosmic creation through his birth, childhood, and adult life — ending with a personal prayer for healing and grace.
Sampoorna Parayanam means a "complete recitation" — reciting all 100 dashakas of the text in full, as opposed to reading select portions. This is typically done:
- As a group devotional event, often chanted collectively by multiple people/groups dividing the dashakas among them
- Over a single day (a marathon session) or sometimes spread across a few days
- Usually accompanied by traditional melodic chanting (there are set tunes for different dashakas)
- Often concluding with an arati or offering, and sometimes paired with a Bhagavatam or Krishna-leela discourse
